Franklin Elementary School 915 Foothill Blvd. Oakland, CA 94606 Mrs. Griffin, Fourth Grade, Room 41 Greetings! I welcome you and your children to the most exciting event that you will ever experience in your life time. THE FOURTH GRADE! The foundation for the fourth grade has been set by grades K-3. Now, you, your child and I, as the teacher contractor are going to begin to construct the first floor of the building. We are all contributors to a life of continuous learning. As the children put their learning to practice, we as parents and teacher are going to support them. What are the expectations I have of your children as students? They will come to school every day prepared to learn. Class participation and interaction is an important part of team building for their future. Each individual has a strength that is applicable to the success of the group or the classroom. Your student will have homework and I will expect it to be completed. Homework reinforces the lesson that has been taught that day. Also if the material taught is a review then it will be an opportunity for them to practice. There’s a saying, “Practice makes perfect.”When your child does not complete homework they will have to complete the assignment during their recess time. If this seems to be an on-going problem then a parent conference is needed. I will expect your children to ask questions. If they do not understand, ask a question. There are no questions that are not important. Questions set the lesson up for gaining greater knowledge. Students need to have a thirst for knowledge. I expect outstanding student behavior. Your children represent you and your family. I know you set a high standard of expectation for how you want your child to act. Whether you are present or absent. Respect and good manners will take them the distance to be winners in this academic arena and society in general. The procedure for inappropriate behavior is two verbal warnings, and then your name is written on the board. If you receive two checks behind your name you will lose recess and a phone call to the parent. The procedure for fighting is according to the guidelines for Oakland Unified School District. You will receive a handbook on district policy. What are my expectations of you as parents? As your child’s hero, I expect you to encourage when the task is difficult, motivate them when the task seems almost impossible. Consequences must be given for inappropriate behavior and not completing homework. Check on your children as frequently as you need to. As your child’s teacher I am always going to be busy doing something. If I am not busy then you need to wonder about me and what am I doing for your child. I want to have a partnership and an agreement that supports molding your child into a promising, productive leader and citizen of our communities and country My contact information is (510) 879 – 1160 , Franklin School, leave a message and I will get back to you immediately. I will give you other information for contact upon request. Sincerely, Mrs. C. Griffin
